Edinburgh is home to a range of great markets where both residents and visitors can find an amazing selection of locally sourced food and hand-crafted gifts from local independent retailers. If you are coming to visit the stunning Scottish capital then we cannot recommend visiting one of our great markets for an early morning nosey, you don’t need to buy anything just make your way around the stalls and search out for the free tasters.

Edinburgh’s farmers’ market

Edinburgh’s farmers’ market is the perfect place for you to pick up seasonal fruit and veg from local farmers.

Where: Castle Terrace

When: Every Saturday

Opening times: 9am-2pm

Leith Market

A range of traders come together and there are stalls where food is made freshly on the spot and on the first Saturday of the month plays host to Vegan Quarter as well as usual traders.

Where: Leith Market Dock Place, EH6 6LU

When: Every Saturday

Opening Times: 10am-4pm.

The Pitt food market

Leith is a vibrant place and at The Pitt, you can enjoy food and craft beers from a number of independent Edinburgh suppliers. The bustling market has indoor and outdoor seating and stalls so the rain won’t put you off. Customers can also enjoy live music while sipping a craft beer.

Grassmarket

As it’s in the name, the Grassmarket is a prime spot for a farmers’ market. Right in the centre of the city, enjoy food from locals, seasonal fruit and vegetables, freshly baked bread, sweet treats, and handcrafted gifts from local craft makers.

Stockbridge

In the picturesque village of Stockbridge is another farmers’ market every Sunday.

Stockbridge already has a lot of independent cafes and boutiques and the feel of community comes alive at the market.

Let’s Get Festive!

Edinburgh Christmas market

Edinburgh’s iconic Christmas Market is returning on the 19th of November. Every year we see both locals and tourists visit our stunning city and get into the festive season by visiting our incredible festive market. Every year Edinburgh turns into a winter wonderland, whether there is snow or not, with German-style markets filling Princes Street Gardens and attractions set up through George Street.

What to expect this year?

  • 62 trading stalls
  • Four attractions will pop up in East Princes Street Gardens
  • The Big Wheel
  • A star flyer
  • 15 stall concessions
  • 11 attractions including the Christmas Tree Maze and a Santa’s Grotto
  • Underbelly is also seeking permission to reinstate an ice rink between Charlotte Square and Castle Street

There are also reports that a ‘family area’ will be near the bandstand if permission is granted.

Where: Princes Street Gardens

When: Friday, November 19-January 2 2022

Opening times: Monday to Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm.

 

Norton Park Ethical Christmas Fayre

Norton Park is hosting an ethical Christmas fayre where local artisans are selling ethically sourced, vegan-friendly gifts.

Where: Norton Park conference centre, Norton Park, 57 Albion Road, Edinburgh, EH7 5QY.

When: November 27, 2021

Opening times: 10am-4pm
