Not sure what’s open in Edinburgh? With restrictions easing every week, and the cases of COVID-19 reducing in Scotland constantly, many of Edinburgh’s fantastic tourist attractions are back up and running again! At the hotel, we have many different measures in place to help protect our beloved guests and members of staff during these difficult and testing times. Click here to find out more about what we’re doing to keep you safe. Since there are so many of our favorite places that have been given the Good To Go green tick, it was incredibly difficult for us to compile this list. After many hours of tough consideration, here is our list of the top 5 things for you and your family to do in Edinburgh, post-lockdown:
Here is what’s open in Edinburgh?
At the zoo, you’ll find Lions, Tigers and Bears (oh my!), some of our closest ancestors, and the world-famous Tian Tian and Yang Guang – the UK’s only Giant Pandas. Social Distancing is required in the park, as well as other safety measures being taken, but you will have just as much fun as ever! Considering they would usually take in over 600,000 visitors every year, you’ll have an experience like no other in the almost deserted park. Scotland’s second most visited paid attraction, shared with just a fraction of the number of families as before – almost sounds too good to be true! An opportunity you really won’t want to miss! To book your slot at the Edinburgh Zoo, visit their website now.
Edinburgh Botanical Gardens
For almost 350 years, the 70 acres of the Royal Botanical Gardens have been home to over 17,000 different species of plant. The Botanics promise a fun yet relaxing day out with friends and family and offer a great opportunity to get away from the hustle, bustle, and all-around madness of city life. The perfect escape from the craziness of the world right now… and a fantastic opportunity to breathe some properly fresh air. Due to the ongoing pandemic, you must book a timeslot online before visiting; however, entrance is still free!
National Museum of Scotland
One of the capital’s best-loved and most famous attractions, the National Museum of Scotland has opened its doors to the public, once again. Since 2006, collections relating to Scottish antiquities, culture, and history, science, technology, natural history, and world cultures have all been stored and presented in the massive Museum on Chambers street. The spectacular collection is a perfect day out for all ages, with enough knowledge to give you and your children a great night’s sleep! As all indoor, public places in Scotland; face masks are mandatory, as well as many other social distancing precautions being taken, for your safety and of those around you. Just like the Botanics, the museum is still free, however, time slot booking is required online in advance.
The Royal Mile
Edinburgh’s legendary castle is one of the oldest fortified places in Europe, with a long rich history as a royal residence, military garrison, prison, and fortress. It truly is alive with many exciting tales. Take a guided tour and learn the castle’s rich, dark history, or perhaps take it all in your time. Whether or not you want to go inside, make sure you take a walk up to the Esplanade to enjoy the stunning panoramic views. Visit their website to find out the parts of the castle that you can and cannot visit during these difficult times and to book tickets.
Camera Obscura & World of Illusions
This is definitely one of the strangest, and most fun days out in the country. The incredible building is host to over 100 mind-bending and eye-popping attractions, designed to educate and entertain. Hands-on exhibits like the Vortex Tunnel, the Magic Gallery, and Light Fantastic are all set to make you question reality and truly mess with your mind. Admissions prices are currently reduced by 10% due to the social distancing measures in place – so it would be a real shame to miss! For more information on what you can do there, or to find out more about the preventative measures being taken, head to their website.
